Color guard is fucking dangerous. My freshman year, one of the guard girls had her head split open by her rifle when she tried to get out of the way of a rogue clarinetist (who was not me, because I was with the brass). She had like seventeen staples in her head and then went back to practice the next day.

My sister was in guard. One of the girls almost stabbed herself in the eye with her saber once. She dropped it or something, and the hilt hit the floor in just the right angle that it bounced right back up into her face. Also, my sister was practicing her rifle toss once, and was going for a quad (where she tosses the rifle and it spins four times in the air before coming back down) but she didn’t really take into account that the sun was at like, high-noon, and she’d have to keep her eye on the rifle.
Yeah, she jokes that she decided to try to catch her rifle with her forehead. What was funnier is that she had a doctors appointment, and for whatever reason our regular doctor (who was also in colour guard in high school) was out, so my sister had an assistant. The woman saw the knot on my sister’s forehead and asked my mum to leave the room and the woman was like “how is your relationship with your mother?”
It wasn’t really funny then…but it’s hilarious now. 8|

Dude im in guard. If I could tell you how many times people say this to me it would be in the thousands. It really bugs me. It makes me all my Jock friends if they think drill team isn’t a sport, and they all say is. Then I ask if dance is a performing art, which they say it is. Then I invite them to one of our practices where they go through our routine. Within 20 minutes they’re screaming as their bodies are stretch in ways they’ve never been before, and that’s just the stretch. Then we put a flag in their hands, which causes them top complain and ask for a gun.so we give them a gun and for the next 10 minutes they try to go through our warm ups. Then we stay tosses. After watching us crack our fives several times in a row without flinching while they stub their fingers doing a single, they give up. And just to get our point across some more, we perform our show and they leave, cringing as they try to figure out how the girl just caught her six and dropped into the splits like it was nothing.
